The
third round of proofs are on their way to the Studio, the
content rich official web site all but done, the free content
PDFs loaded and the forum's being tweaked. This is it. The TME
Hub rules book will be available at Createspace, Amazon.com,
Drive Thru RPG, RPGnow as print books, as well as PDF versions
through your games now, and the previously mentioned outlets. We
will also order a limited quantity for the two game stores here
in
Kamloops,
as well as several to be mailed to reviewers and several
international customers who want signed copies direct from us.
We will be posting much more frequently once the launch has
happened.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2011
We are edging very close to a firm, fixed release date, and are
just finishing off the last of the free online content, dealing
with our web design guys, setting up the password protected
Society of Excavators members area and forum... and getting
together some art for the many PDFs that users can download for
free.
Excited is no word for it.
A final proof copy was sent from Lulu.com last week. Just need
to give it a quick look through and assure ourselves that he
quality is good ad then as soon as the new site is up and
working, we will releases within days. It is looking like the
last week of January 2011 is the releases date.
The above image shows a mock up of the free adventure called The
Crevice, or at least the earliest online version of it as we
plan to update it with more art once we have a free week.
We have been working so hard that we haven't devoted much time
to advertising, twitter, blogs, art previews and such. while all
these pre-launch promotions are great and highly recommended by
marketing people, I'd rather be promoting once I have a product
to offer. There will be enough chance to arrange pre-launch hype
for other books, as we have several well along in the works
including The Mall
of Horrors and Pitford:
Gateway to the Ruins.
Of course, there is the monthly magazine. We don't have a set
date for when the first of those come out, and would like to get
the first three issues loaded and ready for the market before we
release the first issue of Excavator Monthly. The covers,
articles and much of the art is done for the magazine already,
we just need to assemble them and give them each a final edit.
Thanks to all of you who have been so patient,
Happy New Years!

Hi Anonymous, and you others who are
waiting so patiently!
The final edits got turned in and we have
about 60 more pages to go through and then it is good to go.
I'll order a test print copy via lulu.com to make sure the
conversion looks fine, and then make it available as both print
on demand and PDF versions at once. We'll get a shipment of hard
copies sent to the office and deliver these to the local game
shops and book stores, and commence the mail order for those in
Europe and elsewhere who have been waiting for their copy.
The only issue now, besides inserting the
final edits is working with our server host to get the Society
of Excavators password protected area of web site up, and the
phpBB forum inside the members area fully operational. All is
going according to plan but not to schedule. Getting the game on
the market before Christmas seems to be a objective that is
slipping away by the hour, and the Christmas party lat night and
my subsequent hang over today didn't accelerate my productivity.
Still, every hour I work, and press my hirelings and talented
henchmen to work, brings the release an hour closer.
Speaking of henchmen, I have a lot of
talented people helping me with this project, and The Mutant
Epoch could not have gotten to this stage without tons of
feedback, play tester advice, family support and sacrifice.
There have also been a lot of people online, including some of
my illustration client-rpg publishers, who have been very
gracious with advice, resource sharing and camaraderie. I'll be
thanking them properly in the book credits and on the website.
To close off before I settle down to
several hours of edit insertions, thanks to all of you who have
signed up to the Outland Arts Insider newsletter and TME inform
mailing list, this blog and wrote me email asking about the
game. Although Outland Arts hasn't started marketing this Post
Apocalyptic game, other than a few cryptic tweets, some banners
here and there and a teaser ad on
roleplayingtips.com,
we are still getting a lot of attention and it is a huge
motivator toward getting this done as soon as possible, without
sacrificing artwork, rules clarity, game balance, grammar,
spelling or other RPG book publishing challenges.
Thanks and Merry Christmas,
William McAusland
Creative Director,
Outland Arts.com

November 22 2010
Sheer force of will can fuel a person to
work insane hours, draw upon reserves of
enthusiasm, optimism and creativity,
summon self discipline beyond anything
he or she has known before, and get one
very, very close to realizing goals
which fall short by only a matter of
weeks or months. I’m talking about
getting The Mutant Epoch released, of
course. It has been a challenge like no
other in my creative life, and has been
one of those things that sheer force of
will has propelled along for over seven
years now.
The last edits are
being interwoven into the Hub Rules book
day and night. The coffee flows and I
sit alone here night after night getting
ever closer to a final, polished, game
of extreme post-apocalyptic mayhem and
adventure. In fact, I am taking a break
from the last edits to update some of
the Outland Arts social media venues
ahead of next week’s advertising
campaign. We have an ad going out in the
upcoming issue of roleplayingtips.com so
anticipate some traffic from that.
The
anticipated release date back in late
September 2010 was to have the game out
late October, and as that month came and
went in a blur of activity, art, gaming,
and writing of the free material for the
web site, we now find ourselves in mid
November. We’ve decided to provide news
on the impending release and showcase
artwork here on The Mutant Epoch blog to
show a little more of what you can
expect in the book right up to the
release date.
Currently, we are
being more conservative in our launch
date, taking into account the few
challenges still ahead and feeling lousy
about failing to have it on the market
already. We are now confident that the
book will be available sometime in
December and before Christmas and
available in PDF and print on demand
through lulu.com, RPGnow.com,
yourgamesnow.com and onebookshelf.com,
to name just a few sales venues
Thanks to all of
you for the help with getting the word
out and the encouragement. Knowing
people are out there eagerly
anticipating The Mutant Epoch’s release,
not to mention the pre-sales I’ve heard
about from the local game stores and
individuals, has been extra fuel and
motivation to see this game done, and
done right.
In the meantime,
here is the new release notification ad.
Look for artwork here on the blog over
the next weeks as we head down the home
stretch.
Best regards,
Will McAusland

BigCon was a huge success, even though we only
had demo copies of
The Mutant Epoch tabletop RPG. We've posted to the
TME blog with more news and images on the Kamloops based
game convention.
we had a lot of people wanting to buy
copies of the book and told them that mid to late October, this
year, next month, we would have copies available for purchase in
the local game shops , online and mail order direct from our
headquarters.
The Mutant Epoch hub rules book will come in at
248 pages, and at a retail price point of about $30.00 us and
cdn. Editing, completion of the full page digital grayscale
paintings inside , a few art changes and the index still need to
be done, after which we will order a decent sized box fro local
distribution and mail order, and load the POD And PDF versions
to our online retailers.

Most of the activity for the
online Outland Arts presence has been
happening on
our
twitter feed and
blog. We have been extra busy these past few months getting
ready for the impending release of
The Mutant Epoch tabletop RPG. Everything else we have put
on hold as we are desperately trying to get the Hub Rules book
to
BigCon 2010 in Kamloops, British Colombia September 25th
and 26th at the Kamloops Convention Centre. Here is
the banner for BigCon which you can feel free to copy paste and
link to the convention website at
http://bigcon.shawwebspace.ca/

We have been
adding a whole new character race to the Mutant Epoch hub rules,
on recommendations from a fellow called
Brutorz Bill. Mutant Animals, called Bestial Humans in TME,
were slated for the expansion book along with a heap of other
new character types, but after much consideration decided to add
them to the Hub Rules book.
As
explained in our blog, this additional race, along with six new
skills, has delayed the release by two months at least but
should be worthwhile and I am very excited to see some of these
half-animal characters in test play.
In other news,
the cover for the Mutant Epoch is all but done, as is the cover
for our first multi-path adventure called ‘Mall of Doom’
(formerly the Village of Walsave or Mall of Horrors). We will be
posting all TME news and updates on The Mutant Epoch main page
as well as the blog and our twitter feed.

The Mutant Epoch RPG has it's Own Blog and
preview web site! We've been putting in some long hours on the
game this winter, completing stacks of art, getting our web
graphics designed, discussing pre-launch promotions with several
gaming news blogs and advertising venues, comprehensive play
testing, working with editors and proofreaders, getting print
quotes from various countries, and still deep in the edits and
final writing on some of the initial products.
We had
been aiming for a Fall 2009 release, but felt it was an
impossible objective given that the edits and final art might
have had to be either limited in scope or rushed. We will only
release a product when we feel it is as perfect as we can make
it and well play tested.
The coming weeks will involve the final writing
to three of the 1st rank adventures, The Village of
Walsave, The Flesh Weavers, and Dog
Daze. Each of these smaller adventures are between 36
and 56 pages long, designed for PDF download or print on demand
as saddle stitched books, and should take two or three sessions
to run and take PCs from 1st to about 2nd or 3rd rank, ready to
tackle the much more complex adventures such as Blood Road
or the upcoming Nuke Tower. The artists and our
outside editor will also be kept as busy as always.
To keep updated on the projects progress, either
check out our blog at
http://themutantepoch.blogspot.com/, or checking out our
preview site at
http://www.outlandarts.com/mutantepoch.htm, which once the
game is available will convert to our full site with the same
URL. Finally, you can sign up
to be on our mailing list to receive emails on progress and
news, as well as the big announcement of the official launch
date.
Best regards,
Will McAusland and the Outland Arts team
December
26th 2008
We’ve had a tremendously productive summer and
fall here at Outland arts. The writing is done and the first few
books are at the editors! Half the artwork for the Hub Rules
book is completed and already inserted in the layout, with the
remainder being created over the next six months. Writing for the first magazine issue
is also completed along with most of the interior art and covers, the first regional
gazetteer book and several other large books and adventures are
also completed and getting their first edits, maps and interior
art rendered and covers designed.
The skeleton to the TME web site is
now designed and the navigation buttons created and coded. We
will be launching a preview site shortly along
with the official TME blog.
We’ve also taken on another artist,
Pat Badminton who will be helping us with ink and graphite
illustrations for the monthly magazine Excavator Monthly as well
as some of the adventures we have in play test phase. Once he
has his web site loaded we’ll add that to the news here as well.
In short, after years of work we have
been making exceptional progress on the RPG portion of the
project. The comic or graphic novel –not sure which direction to
go there just yet- is something I am personally very eager to
get to, as well as the edits for the novel trilogy.
Pending any unforeseen disasters, we
are now ready to announce a release date for The Mutant Epoch
tabletop RPG. While not attending Gen Con 2009, we are aiming to
releases the first wave of books and supplements late in 2009 or
early 2010. We will be releasing titles in the following order:
The Mutant Epoch
hub rules book:
Estimated at between 180 and 200 pages/
three versions to start:
PDF version for RPGnow/ Drive Thru/
and Your Games Now
POD book (print on demand) version at
Lulu.com
Printed book for mail order,
distribution and direct to retailer sales.
Adventure TME-1: The Village of Walsave
for
1st rank characters:
between 48 and 56
pages
multi-path style/ released initially in POD and PDF versions
Adventure TME-2: Blood Road
for
characters of ranks 2-4:
About 130 pages
multi-path style/ released initially in POD and PDF versions
Adventure TME-3: The Flesh Weavers
for
1st
and 2nd rank characters:
About 130 pages
multi-path style/ released initially in POD and PDF versions
Excavator Monthly Magazine
issue 1:
Estimated at 25-40 pages per issue and available
as either a PDF for download or print on demand at Lulu.com
In other news, we are working on two more sets of
fantasy clip inks, Publisher’s Fantasy Page Ornaments and
Fantasy Filler Art, although the clip inks line are somewhat on
the back burner these days due to the focus on TME.
We have our work cut out for us in
the next few weeks and will try and post here more often. If
you’d like to be notified of the progress of The Mutant Epoch,
please email us with the word TME inform or something similar in
the subject field of your email.
Seasons Greetings from all of us at Outland Arts,
Sincerely,
Will McAusland

The Geek Gazette
has produced an excellent preview write up on The Mutant Epoch
RPG: check it out here:
http://thegeekgazette.blogspot.com/2008/09/mutant-epoch.html
June18 2008: It' s been a busy spring!
We've recently released Fantasy Clip Inks,
Dungeon Portals set 2 and have
been working long hours on both the final writing and interior
art for the
The Mutant Epoch
RPG. With three core books, a detailed town setting, three
adventures and the first six issues of Excavator Monthly
Magazine written, our freelance editors and illustrators are
going to be very busy for the summer and well into the fall.
The Mutant Epoch game,
especially the Hub Rules, will most certainly be the most
heavily illustrated role playing game ever, with 580 ink,
digital and graphite illustrations. Of course, 90% of these
drawings are quarter page or less, some no more than a half inch
square. Nevertheless, there is still a lot of work to do, but we
are all having a great time, especially play testing. We
have recruited another artist, Fraser Hallett and are about to
take on a third in the next couple of weeks.
In other news, we've also
begun to get people signing up for our release info list,
a way of us being able to notify everybody when the game is
going to be released, however we are thinking of sending out
occasional updates to the list as well. If your interested in
keeping informed of The Mutant Epoch, let us know by clicking
here:
info@outlandarts.com
Here are a few samples of some of the artwork for
the Mutant Epoch, but go to the TME
product page to see more updates and previous uploads.
Also, if you have any questions about the game,
please email us and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
Best regards,
Will McAusland
Creative Director

March 29 2008:
We've been busy! While we are heavily
involved in ongoing play testing and editorial work on
The Mutant Epoch
RPG, as well as receiving stacks of finished TME art from our
freelancers, we've also been able to release our latest Fantasy
Clip Inks: Dungeon Portals set 1. 12 300 dpi images for
adventure publishes and home brew
creators, perfect for player handouts or just to hang on
your
wall! We've actually completed Dungeon Portals set 2, as
well, and will release that set next week.
Also
in the works are a miniatures rules system for any line of 35mm
fantasy figures, as well as initial drafts of our Outland System
Fantasy RPG system, which will be fully compatible with the post
apocalyptic setting of The Mutant Epoch.
October 30th 2007:
Fantasy Clip Inks: The art is
in and we are assembling the PDFs and files for Dungeon Portals
Sets 1 and 2, each will have 12, 300 dpi tiff files and also
sell for $12.00. We are now selling out FCI stock art series at
Lulu.com , and in a few days will also make them
available at
www.yourgamesnow.com .

The Mutant Epoch:
Production has taken a year or two longer than we had planned
due to adding additional content for the release date ( for
timed releases of core books, the PDF magazine, web content and
and two full length adventures :Nuke Tower and Blood Road.
We have also given ourselves more time to enjoy
extended play testing, another round of copy editing and a ton
more art. We now have three artists working with us, which is
really important as this RPG is going to be lavishly
illustrated, with much of the art available as prints through
our cafe press and imagine kind stores.
Projected Launch date summer 2008, although we
will not release it until we are completely satisfied with the
quality of each and every book, download and image.
April 19 2007 :: Last night we loaded
two more sets of Fantasy
Clip Inks stock art to RPGnow: Spell casters set 1
and Warriors set 2. Warriors set 2 has an extra
13th bonus image, while Spell Casters set one has a whopping 16
images! We decided that since it may be a while before we get to
future warrior or spell caster sets again, we might as well give
our customers access to these images now, as an extra incentive
to purchase them.
Our next product in the Fantasy Clip Inks line is the
Dungeon Portals set 1, which are now completely penciled
in by Will and ready to ink. As far as work goes on the Mutant
Epoch RPG, we have completed the second adventure and have had a
blast play testing the brutal quest. We rolled dice for three
consecutive nights, played 16 and a half hours, doing plenty of
edits, addressing a few rules questions and added some more
options. This specific, brutal test play session left me with an
new impression of the adventure, the TME setting and rules
which I have never experienced or quite appreciated before; just
how intense, quick, deadly and unnerving the fights are. You
must make damn sure your character uses cover and the bulk of
the team has ranged weapons with a fair amount of ammo to ensure
acceptable odds of survival. Of course, having some decent armor
sure helps, but so too, having the speed to get the hell outa' a
narrow passage or cross fire situation when needed is also
important. Finally, the nature of the multi-path adventure, which
could allow you to play the game solo if you wanted, was
tremendously exciting because depending on the way the dice
fell, your team of heroes could either meet up with some helpful
scavenger, or a mutated grizzly bear... or worse. You never know
what's around the corner, or crashing through the sage brush
your way. It was stressful, in a good way, sort of cinematic and
it gave me sweaty palms.
We had one character death after numerous close calls
and serious injuries... a mutated bull mastiff caught a guy in a narrow passage and tore him to
shreds. The poor fellow had a pump shotgun but ran out of shells
just as the thing leapt for his throat. The other characters
fled back to a wide area in the place and were able to form a
line when the dog finally came for them, the front rank
piercing the beast with crossbow bolts, arrows, musket balls a few relic
bullets from a pair of survival rifles, oh yeah, and a volley of spines
from an ugly mutant woman.
We are only half way through the 100 page adventure, and I for one
am eager to get back there and achieve our team's objectives.
Until next time,
Best regards,
Will McAusland
Creative Director
October 30 2006 ::
We launch the first of our role-playing game
accessories, a collection of stock images under the Fantasy
Clip Inks series titled Warriors 1. We also launch this new
updated website. This new improved site does everything we
required of a hub web site; is easy to navigate and expand upon,
all with a light, highly readable and printer friendly theme.
The gift shop is now the main gateway to our extensive cafe press
store, plus,
we have an expanded preview of our up coming Roleplaying game,
The Mutant Epoch. The Outland System logo has been finalized,
and progress has been excellent on the editing, art, web
development and advanced play testing. we have the cover art for
our monthly magazine, Excavator Monthly, as well as a great many
of the article written for the firs six issues. The core books
for the game are also written and in the layout and editing
process, while we have two major adventures and several smaller
products and supplements in the advanced stages as well.
Anyhow, thanks for stopping by and checking out our new site.
If you would like to be notified or updated on the progress of
The Mutant Epoch, simply write us a quick note with the words
'TME progress' in the subject line and we will keep you in the
loop.
